Henrik Ibsen biography
Henrik Ibsen is the pioneer of modern prose plays. He was born on 20 March 1828 in Skeen, Norway. He was the second of six siblings. Ibsen's father was a famous merchant, but when Ibsen was eight years old, his father went bankrupt. So he came to know about poverty since his childhood. From 1851 to 1864, he worked at various theatres in Bergen (present Oslo). Henrik Ibsen wrote the first play, at the age of 21. The five-volume tragedy was called 'Catiline'.
In 1858, Henrik Ibsen married Susanna Thorson. Ibsen felt after the birth of his son, it is more important to have equal rights than men and women in the world. His realization came out in the play 'A Doll's House'.
But critics have always accused him of disrespecting the present marriage system. Nevertheless, Ibsen, almost all of his writings has written against Norwegian Orthodoxy.
However, critics were not just writing his life, but also writing about personal life, in 1864, he went to Oslo, leaving Oslo with Norway's government scholarship. He spent the rest of his life for the last 27 years. He spent his time in Italy and Germany. The starts of his career as a writer were not very prepossessing. In 1866, he came to the discussion through the music drama 'Brand'. After that, he wrote 'Pir Giant'. Both of these plays made him known as a playwright.
While living in Italy in 1879, his famous play 'A Dolls House' was published and staged in the form of books. But after breaking the previous two musical genres, he started writing prose drama, through the play. Through this play, the stage was established as a separate realistic genre. In the same sequence, he wrote two plays, 'Ghosts' in 1881 and 'An Anime of the People' in 1882. Both of these plays also have great success.
After soon, Henrik Ibsen's drama became translated into various languages around the world. Especially Ibsen's plays have been translated into various European languages.
Henrik Ibsen died on 23 May 1906.
