What is Education Define

Education is the process by which our mind develops through formal learning at an institution like a school, college or university. It is mental and intellectual training that provides opportunities for growth and helps meet challenges and overcome obstacles to progress. Again, the purpose of education is to enlighten the individual and develops his/her capacity to the limit. It is also the business of education to train individuals to make the right choices to go ahead. It ennobles our minds and refines our sensibility. It also broadens our outlook and helps us become aware of our rights and responsibilities. According to Newman,
education gives a man a clear conscious view of his own opinions and judgments, a truth in developing them, an eloquence in expressing them and a force in using them.
Therefore, it is often compared to light which removes the darkness of ignorance and helps us distinguish between right and wrong. Ex-president Julius Nyerere of Tanzania way back in 1974 said at an international conference that the primary purpose of education was the liberation of man from the restrictions of habits and attitudes which limit his humanity. He further said that education should promote humanity and universal brotherhood and that it could be used as a catalyst for a change for the better. How right he was!

Education is much more than mere literacy. The concept of education is much more significant. One who enriched his head, hand and heart in a harmonious way is educated in the true sense of the term. So, here we get the concept of three H's after the acquisition of the three R's, that is, Reading, Writing and Arithmetic.

When a literate person uplifts himself to the self-learning stage, he begins to acquire the enrichment of his head, hand and heart. One who becomes an automobile engineer should have the theoretical knowledge in his head. He must know how to work with an automobile with his skilled hand and should have the moral values to be fair in his profession in his heart.

If an electronic engineer has to go to a mechanic to repair his own TV set, it shows that he is not skilled and not educated in the true sense and even has no desire in his heart to learn the skill. If one who is a holder of the highest degree of education of our country takes a bribe to do someone a favour, we cannot call him educated because he is not rich in heart. So, let us try to develop our three H's for a peaceful and prosperous country.
