What is Sociolinguistics?

Sociolinguistic is a branch of linguistic study the relationship between language and society. It helps of exploring, uncover and understand why we speak differently in various social contexts, what effects a language has known the diverse aspects of a community or vice versa, how a language function has a channel of communication between varied parts of society and so forth. That is sociolinguistic is concerned with the identifying of the social functions of language and the way it is used to convey social meaning. It as a sub-discipline of linguistics began to emerge the end of the eighteenth century, and into the start of the nineteenth. It became a focus of linguistics as academic study moved from the scientific approaches to the study of the language of the eighteenth century into a more philosophical, revolutionary approach. In the nineteenth century brought about sociolinguist study into dialectology, involving dialect surveys of the different language.

Further, Spolsky describes that sociolinguistic is the history of the relation between language and Society, between the use of language and the social structures in who the use of language live.

To conclude, sociolinguistic is a branch of linguistics that deals with the relation of the language to society. The sociolinguistics will be concerned with the investigating the relationship between language and society with the goal of higher understanding of the structure of language and the way of languages operate in communication; equivalent within the social science of language is going to be to find the social system will be higher understood the study of language. There are two ways to deal with the study of sociolinguistics-- micro and Marco.

Micro-sociolinguistics

Marco-sociolinguistics

On the other hand Marco- sociolinguistics covers the study of language and communication more generally and looks at language data on a wider scale which leads to generalisations and conclusions to be identified, For example, the choices made about conversational structure.

It becomes a primary focus of linguistics as educational studies move from the scientific approaches to the study of the language of the eighteen century on to an emotional philosophical, biological process approach that thought-about the social which considered the social factors affecting language. Prior to this language was seen as a fixed in an entity controlled entirely by the human mind and the social aspects of language were totally ignored.
