As I Walked Out One Evening Analysis

W H Auden is of the most famous Twentieth-century renowned American-English poet, he is an independent and autonomous poet and aesthetic contemporary religious poets. His poetry was compiled in society, politics, history, and philosophy of life, in the English literature he was recognized by an unmatched creator. Time deeply affects poet life. The impact of war, struggle, classification, economic crisis, unemployment, frustration, social injustice etc has touched W H  Auden mind. In the first half of the twentieth century, two world war Auden contributed greatly to the creation of the horrific debates in the social life of Europe in the formation of Auden's poetry. Most of the poems in his poetry are reflections which are noteworthy.

A poem gives unbelievable pleasure to the reader, creating the aesthetic taste of the reader. This unique poetry overwhelmed the era of creation and the longevity of the poets of the late generation. W H Auden's poems spread to the depths of the heart. One of the poems ‘As I walk out one evening’ the main theme of my discussion. In the poem, it shifts the heart of the poet's mind in suspicion of feeling and sense of ignorance.

'As I walk out one evening', written in the middle of the 20th century, is composed of 15 verses, each verse composed of four stanzas. The essence of the English grazing or folk songs in poetry is obvious. This poem is based on the analogy of the similitude and the metaphor of the real and the surrealism of the heart of the reader. The intrinsic tune of poetry is the communion of love and time stability. Love is not eternal, but rather the cycle of life and death reminds love. In this poem, joy and love are essential symbols of man life.

The first verse of poetry cannot be separated from the city-village, on the one hand, simultaneous urban-village scenes are seen in the descriptions of the crowd of people on the urban pavement road and on the other hand the crop fields. Which may have been the poet's desire to create the cycle of life and the cycle of mortal life, such as:

                                  Walking down Bristol Street ...
                                    were fields of harvest wheat...

Here Bristol Street is full of sparkling life. And the harvesting season is the end result of life, the grey foliage of mortality. Wheat is a fixed duration or representative of the season.

This poem has seen the emergence of a dramatic climax through some conversations. The narrator (poet), the singer-lover and the time representation of the city should be the main character of this poem. They are life-death, joy-loving, light-dark and black-time commentators. Anyway, the endless love passes all the time, it is the idea of lovers. For example, in the second verse, we see Under the command of the rail/love has no end. The railway archway is a definite epoch. But there is no end to the love or the flow of love.

In the three and four stanzas of this poem, it seems that love seems to overcome natural inflexible obstacles. The poet has made the impossible to conquer love.

I will love you, dear, I will love you,
                                     until China & Africa meet,
and the rivers jump on the mountains,
and the salmon sing in the street

In the eternal cosmic endeavour to find love in the celestial world, the dynamism of love in the metaphor of romantic frenzy that moves in the bounds of eternity in the boundary. The use of a great metaphor in the following walks makes us wonder.

I will love you the ocean,
Is folded and hang up to dry,
and the seven stars go squawking,
                                                    like geese about the sky.

In the next few verses, from the fifth stanza, the original tone of the poem turns to a different direction. The scene of the other in the scene. Clock ties in time, city clocks create harmony, declare that you cannot achieve victory overtime, remember this cruel truth. So the timing of the timer in the town is the messenger of the reality of life and death, the bells of the church such as the arrival of the body of the dead. The clocks also state that human exhaustion and sickness strain on the pattern of time. Poet Auden as illustrated in this poem,

but all the clocks in the city
                                          Began to whirr and chime
                                          Let not time deceive you
You can not win the time...

That means the poet Whirr and chime- maybe the words of life in the city's bell. But still, the shadow of death came to the delight of the believer's love of the infinite love of the divine. The spokesman of the time clearly declares that love or life cannot rule over time. Because no one can win over time. Life is the flute tune of death. Therefore, it must be surrendered to the time. During the time of great love and love for life, the narrator (poet) has skillfully visualized the physical and emotional eruption of human life. Because, as much love is said of immortality, love is limited in life or life is limited, gradually it gets sick and broken. So a certain moment of life is going on in the dark path of death to reach the destination of death. So love is not strong at all.

                                             Into many a green valley
                                             drifts the appalling snow
                                            Time breaks the threaded dance
                                          And the divers' brilliant bow

Beauty and youth cannot be kept forever, this is their tragedy. As soon as it gets old, it breaks down.
Once again, the poet has called the time as fickle for the sake of the poet.

In the burrows of the nightmare ...
time watches the lovers from the shadow And coughs
                                           when you will kiss

Lover's, love is not undoubted. Living in the nightmare cave keeps an eye on the boyfriend. The speed of time cannot be uninterrupted, deadly, joy, and fear.

In the next stanza, the underlying sound of the combination of time and love is voiced. Even after declaring absolute authority over love, the guardian of the time reminds the lovers of life - life itself is a blessing within the poison of mortality. Although there are tragic consequences in life, yet unsteady love is still essential.

O look look in the mirror
                                           O look in your distress
                                            life remains a blessing
                                           Although you can not bless.

Despite human immaturity and mortality and depressed in pain, the time-watchdog watches tell us to love each other.
                                        O stand on the window
As the tears scald and start
We will love your crooked neighbour
                                            With your crooked hearts

In fact, the time holder watches several lovers about the timing of lovers, but the lover is unnatural. Loyalty space is very short in time and in the vast history of time and continuous in time.

It was late, late in the evening,
                                              The lovers, they were gone
And the clocks had ceased their chiming

clock chunks of life like the ruckus of life. And the end of life is inevitable. Therefore, it is the foundation of time in the world and a fragmentary part of life-death and the eternal cycle of love.

In this poem by W H Auden, we also see the vision of T. S. Eliot's Westland. In this poem, the scenes of dusty, barren and panic-stricken rocks are seen somewhere in the motionless earthly scene. There is also an indication of the deep flow rivers drying up. Is folded and hang up to dry or drifts the appalling snow.

The narrator (poet) travels on a colourful euphoria in the entire poem, conveys the love, or conversation of deep feelings of life and time to an abstract level of philosophy. In this poem, the poet presented a unique poetic poem about the speed of love and unlimited talk. Contemporary episodes, geography, cosmic wonders, primordial panic and love-time dialogue have been centralized in Auden's poem.
